REGULATIONS FOR VISITING MACHU PICCHU

SUSTAINABLE VISITING REGULATIONS FOR THE CONSERVATION OF THE MACHU PICCHU ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK

 

I. OBLIGATIONS OF VISITORS

  1. Purchase your tickets at centers authorized by the Ministry of Culture of Peru.
  2. Comply with the provisions established in these regulations for the duration of your stay in the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu.

 

II. ENTRANCE TICKET

In order to purchase the ticket, visitors will have to provide their personal data such as: passport number, national identity document (DNI), immigration card, or diplomatic card. The ticket is only valid for the date it was purchased, and may be for one of these four visit options:

  • Type 1: Classic Machu Picchu (Circuit 1 or 2) valid to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
  • Type 2: Machu Picchu (Circuit 4) + Wayna Picchu, valid to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu + the alternate route that is Wayna Picchu Mountain.
  • Type 3: Machu Picchu (Circuit 3) + Machu Picchu Mountain, valid to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu + the 2nd alternate route that is Machu Picchu Mountain
  • Type 4: Machu Picchu (Circuit 4) + Huchuy Picchu, valid to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu + the 3rd alternate route that is Huchuy Picchu Mountain.

III. DURATION TIME

The stay of the visitor in the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu should not exceed 4 hours from the moment of entry, between 6:00 am and 4:00 pm. The park closes at 5:30 pm. The entry times are fixed and detailed in the description of the TYPES OF TICKETS.

 

IV. ENTRANCE TO THE CITADEL

In order to enter the citadel, visitors must carry their printed ticket along with their original identity document which they used to purchase the ticket, whether it is a Passport, DNI, or immigration card. They must also be accompanied by an authorized tour guide to safeguard the site's integrity and contribute to orderly visiting of the park.

 

V. PROHIBITIONS DURING YOUR VISIT

  1. Carrying backpacks or bags larger than 40 x 35 x 20 cm (16 x 14 x 8 inches).
  2. Entering with food.
  3. Entering carrying any illegal substance or under its effects.
  4. Entering with any type of alcoholic beverage or under its effects.
  5. Carrying walking sticks; umbrellas; parasols; portable seats; tripods; supports or extensions for cameras or cell phones; or any other stabilization or extension element for filming and/or photography.
  6. Entering with animals, with the exception of guide dogs.
  7. Feeding domestic or wild animals.
  8. Entering with any type of aerosols.
  9. Making any type of graffiti or paintings on the walls.
  10. Entering with any type of musical instrument, megaphone or loudspeakers.
  11. Making loud or annoying noises such as clapping, shouting, whistling or singing, among others.
  12. Using virtual applications with cell phones or mobile devices on narrow arteries.
  13. Entering with heels or hard sole shoes.
  14. Entering with baby strollers.
  15. Entering with sharp objects and/or weapons of any kind.
  16. Entering with banners, posters, signs, clothing intended for advertising purposes, costumes, among other objects of this type.
  17. Making films or photographs for advertising purposes.
  18. Causing a riot, jumping, lying down, running, stripping naked, or creating disorder.
  19. Climbing or leaning on walls and/or structures.
  20. Touching, moving, or extracting stone elements.
  21. Disturbing, collecting, or extracting flora or fauna.
  22. Carrying out activities that distort the sacred character of the citadel of Machu Picchu; such as fashion shows, dances, social commitments, obscene acts contrary to morality and good customs, or any type of activity that implies the impairment or deterioration of the monument, its natural environment, and/or facilities.
  23. Smoking, vaping, or making any type of fire.
  24. Throwing waste of any kind.
  25. Failure to respect established circuits and routes.
  26. Selling items or services in the monument and surrounding areas up to the Puente Ruinas.
  27. Performing overflights with paragliders, drones, or any type of smaller craft.

 

VI. NON-COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS

Failure to comply with the provisions of these regulations will result in the expulsion of the visitor from the Sanctuary without the right to a refund of the amount of the entrance ticket. Likewise, the Directorate of Culture will determine the seriousness of the event and apply the corresponding legal actions.
